Charlotte McLeskey

Charlotte McLeskey, 92, of Piggott, passed away May 8, 2009, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

Charlotte Luella Davis was the daughter of Alexander Edgar Davis and Charlotte Evelyn (Atkinson) Davis, and was born February 4, 1917, in Hunter, Mo.

On August 21, 1937, she was married to Louis Clifford McLeskey and to this union six children were born.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Clifford, and two sons, Clifford Royal and Louis Craig; three brothers, Edgar Houpt Davis, Russell Alexander Davis, and Royal William Davis; one sister, Rose Evelyn Brawner and one son-in-law, Elbert Mallard.

Survivors include one son, Terrence (Terry) McLeskey and wife JoAnn of Pollard; three daughters, Judy Mallard of Pollard, Mary Crossfield and husband Joe of Brandon, Fla., and Susan Helms of Piggott; nine grandchildren, Terry Shane McLeskey of Pollard, Greg Mallard and wife Tracey of Piggott, Kim (Mallard) Moore and husband Ronnie of Maynard, David Mallard of Pollard, Brad Mallard and wife Suzie of San Diego, Calif., Debbie Mallard of Pollard, Stacy (Crossfield) Williams and husband Chris of Seffner, Fla., Jimmy C. Helms and wife Tonya of Piggott, and Mary D. (Helms) Small and husband Harold of Pollard. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Eric and Caleb Moore, Zachery and Alex Redmon, Natalie Small, Jessica and Nate Mallard, Whitley Blue, Mason Henry, Jaclyn and Nicolas Helms, Laura and Jack Williams and Ella Mallard. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to her. Other survivors include three sisters-in-law, Pansy McLeskey of Pollard, Mary Agnes McLeskey of Piggott, and Velma Davis of Sikeston.

Charlotte was converted at the age of 12 and joined the First Baptist Church in Piggott, later joining the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, where she had been a member for many years. She was also a 66 year member of the Eastern Star, and was active in the retired teachers association. She taught for 20 years in the Piggott School District while earning a Master's Degree in Education from Arkansas State University.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 11at the First United Methodist Church in Piggott with John Sandine officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Greg Mallard, David Mallard, Brad Mallard, Jimmy Craig Helms, Shane McLeskey, Chris Williams, Harold Small and Ronnie Moore. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Piggott Public Library or the First United Methodist Church of Piggott in her memory.
