Car show moved to fairgrounds

The car show, which was scheduled to be held Saturday at Heritage Park on the west edge of Piggott, has been moved to the Clay County fairgrounds. With the change of location, the route of the annual cruise also has been adjusted.

"We met with the Piggott Parks and Recreation Commission last Friday and they told us it was just too wet at the park," Chamber of Commerce secretary Sharon Bellers noted. "Even if it didn't rain anymore this week it was just too wet for us to use."

Car show organizers then hastily reworked their plan to be held at the fairgrounds on the north edge of Piggott. The day will begin with a breakfast from 6 to 9:30 a.m. in the fairgrounds kitchen. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for car show participants.

The opening ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. and a variety of games will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along with entertainment. Other offerings Saturday include a car blow-up that afternoon, 50/50 drawing, black out board and a bounce house and inflated caterpillar for kids.

The big cruise will roll through town beginning at 7 p.m., but there will be a new route to the square this year. The cruise will originate at the Emmanuel Baptist Church at the corner of East North and North Johnson and proceed south on Johnson to Main Street. The cruise then will go west on Main Street through town and turn south on North 12th Street.

Participants then will proceed two blocks to West Clay before making the turn back east toward the square. Local residents and visitors are invited to line the cruise route and enjoy the parade of millions of dollars of classic vehicles and street rods.

Saturday evening also will include live entertainment by "Kenny and the Flashbacks" on the court square, and there will be a 50's dress competition. The majority of the car show entries also will be on display around the square that evening, and there will be a food stand operated by the Aerial Bouquets Relay For Life team.

Sunday morning there will be a gospel singing at 9 a.m. followed at 10:30 by the awards ceremony. The show will officially close by noon.
