The Piggott RC Modelers club held its annual Spring Fun-Fly over the weekend and hosted a variety of competitors from across the region. Saturday proved to be the better of the two days for the flyers, as near-perfect temperatures and a gentle breeze were the order of the day. That afternoon there were two competitions, scale model judging and fun-fly, with a large number of entries.

There also was a large group of spectators on hand for the events, including other pilots from across the region.

The winner in the civilian scale model judging division was Trace Speakes of Kennett with a Howard Pete Plane. Second place went to Butch Zollinger of Marmaduke with a Moon Walker, and Zollinger also took third place with a one-third scale Cub.

In the War-Birds division first place went to Jeff Clark of Sikeston with an AT-6 Texan. Second place went to Speakes and his P-80 jet, while Tom Boulnois of Charleston, Mo., took third place.

Winners also were named in Fun-Fly events. Mike Payton of Jonesboro took first in spot landing, followed by Tylon Lynxwiler of Jonesboro and Tina Zieman of Robards, Ky.

Winners in the three-loops event was Lloyd Daughetee of Campbell. Second went to Mike Payton of Jonesboro, and third was Jeff Clark of Sikeston. The tabletop landing winner was Tina Zieman of Robards, Ky., while second went to Daughetee and third to Tim Lynxwiler of Jonesboro.

Winner of the egg drop was Payton, while Zieman took second and Lynxwiler third place. Finally the stud fly event went to Tom Boulnios. Second was Daughetee and Tim Lynxwiler took third.

Sunday morning brought with it windy and hot conditions, which prompted some of the regional modelers not to return for the second day. However, 28 pilots did fly and entertain a good crowd of spectators.

The club also held a raffle of items related to the sport, with donations and support from: Great Planes, Horizon Hobby, Wise Company, Country Mart, Round House Hobbies of Piggott, Flying Z Hobbies of Robards, Ky., along with many individuals.

"We want to thank our co-sponsors for promoting the R/C modeling hobby and helping to provide good clean wholesome fun for our spectators," club secretary/treasurer Myron Low noted. "To the spectators, we want to thank you for coming out and joining in on the fun and letting us share our hobby with you."

Low also added that the club was especially thankful for the funds donated by spectators at this year's event.
