John Carlton
Local businessman and Viet Nam war hero John Carlton of Piggott lost a lengthy and valiant battle with cancer Tuesday, June 23, at Piggott Community Hospital. He was 61.

Carlton was founder and co-owner with his wife Vicki of Master Marketing of Piggott, which the couple started in 1992. He first became involved in the floral industry in 1979 and, in 1981, was instrumental in introducing telemarketing to the industry. In 1989 he brought that experience and knowledge to Piggott as a manager with Aerial Bouquets.

He was a board member of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce and served as president during a time of great growth. Carlton also was instrumental in the effort to restore and move the Piggott depot back to its original location, where it now serves as the chamber office and visitor center.

He was the Grand Marshall of last year's Piggott Fourth of July parade and was honored for both his military service and his contributions to the city.

Carlton was born in Denton, Texas, but was raised on a ranch in Hartshorne, Okla., where his parents instilled in him a pride in Western heritage that he held dear throughout his life.

During service in Viet Nam, he received the Silver Star, the second-highest award given by the Army, along with two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division.

Throughout his life he remained an avid outdoorsman, horseman and rodeo fan.

John is missed very much and was loved greatly!

His smile was always one, that would brighten up anyones gloomy day.

He was one of our towns best men!

He will NEVER be forgotten.
