The local girls fastpitch 10 and under All-Star softball team traveled to Pine Bluff this past weekend to take part in the state tournament, and brought home the state title. Despite playing in temperatures of 105 degrees, the young team proved they were hotter than the weather as they went undefeated and advanced to the championship game in the winner's bracket.

In the finals, which were played Sunday evening, the Piggott girls downed the host Pine Bluff team 13-4 to remain unbeaten and claim the state crown.

Along with taking the state title, the local girls were also honored for best sportsmanship, athletic ability and stamina. They've also been invited to represent Arkansas in the regional tournament that's being held in New Mexico. Coaches also added that tournament organizers remarked that the Piggott team was singled-out as one of the most skilled teams of 10 and under players to ever perform at the Pine Bluff tourney.

The team and coaches offered their thanks to the community for their support in making the trip possible through donations. They also added that they're proud to bring the championship back to Piggott.

They also added a thank you to the team parents for their support over the course of the year, and reminded everyone that it's not too early to start preparing for next year.

Members of the Arkansas State Champion 10 and Under Girl's Fastpitch softball team are, Devyn Staples, Colby Lynch, Grayson Murray, Jaesa Threatt, Taylor Choate, Shelby Morgan, Makayla Romines, Tara Vaughn, Emily Crouch, manager Ambra Staples, coach Bryan Lynch and coach Mary Wade.
