Piggott girl's summer tennis league wraps-up with annual tournament

The Piggott girl's summer league tournament finals were played Friday evening, after the finals were rained out on Thursday. The league, which is organized by PHS tennis coach Paul Seegraves, allows players a chance to hone their skills prior to the upcoming high school season.

In the first round of play it was Halee Arnold over Elizabeth Ermert 6-0, Emily Graddy downed Jerica Tate 6-2, Katelynn Woodard beat Jazzmyne Mills 6-0, Emilee Seegraves shut out Taylor Covert 6-0 and Hallie Vannada defeated Meghan Woodard 6-2.

In the second round of play it was Haley French over Halee Arnold 6-0, Emily Graddy defeated Katelynn Woodard 6-1, Alex Scheffler got by Emilee Seegraves 6-2 and Chelsea Covarrubia beat Hallie Vannada 6-1. That set up the semifinals, and in that round French beat Graddy 6-0 and Scheffler got by Covarrubia 6-2.

In the third place match it was Graddy over Covarrubia 6-2 and in the championship match Haley French shut out Alex Scheffler 6-0 to take the title.

Seegraves noted that practice for the high school team will begin Monday, Aug. 10 for students in grades nine through 12. Girls practice will be held at 3:30 p.m. daily, with the boy's practices set for 4:30.
