He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elbert and Hattie (Carpenter) Johnson.
He was survived by his wife of 52 years, Myra (Miller) Johnson; sons, Mark K. Johnson of New Bern, N.C., Bryan Johnson (Mendy) of Winchester, Kurt Johnson (Wanda) of Winchester and Erik Johnson (Betsy) of Nashville; grandchildren, Alexandra Johnson, Winn Johnson, Leah (Dan) Frere, Nicole (Randall) King, Lauren (Josh) Keeton, Michelle (Steve) Cross, Aaron Johnson and Luke Johnson, along with great-grandchildren, Austin and Hannah Cross, Louis Frere, and Mercy, Justus and Tytus King.
Dr. Johnson operated his medical practice for over 43 years in Winchester, retiring in 1995. He was Chief of Staff for the Franklin County Hospital for 26 years. He graduated with his BS degree in 1944 and the school of medicine in 1946 from the University of Arkansas. He completed his surgical residency from Vanderbilt University in 1954.
When he was not spending time with his family, he loved hunting, boating and visiting with friends. Dr. Johnson has donated his body to Vanderbilt School of Medicine.
A memorial service was held Monday, July 26, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester with Rev. Jonathan Clark officiating. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Haven of Hope, P.O. Box 1271, Manchester, Tenn., 37355, or the Franklin County Salvation Army, 900 North Shepherd Street, Winchester, Tenn., 37398.
The Moore-Cortner Funeral Home of Winchester was in charge of the arrangements.
