Former Clay county clerk Erbadell Smart dead at 83

Former Clay County Clerk Seveda Erbadell Smart of Piggott died Tuesday, July 28, at Piggott Community Hospital. "Erbie" as she was fondly known by family and friends, was appointed county clerk in May of 1987 following the death of her husband Lavon "Sonny" Smart. She was appointed to serve the remainder of his two year term as county clerk at that time, and held the office through December of 1988.

She had spent the last several years of her life as a resident of the Evergreen Nursing Center in Rector, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
