Longtime Rector businessman Doyne Maurice Webb died Sunday, Aug. 30, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould at age 82.

Webb worked for years at Irby Funeral Home in Rector and then owned the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Agency on Main Street. In later years, he worked at Glen Sain Motors in Rector and became a fixture at the business, where all who visited enjoyed his warmth and humor.

The son of the late Daniel and Grace Parham Webb, he was born June 7, 1927, in Clay County and had lived in this area his entire life. He was married Sept. 27, 1947, to the former Dortha Williams of Rector, and they shared almost 62 years together.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Navy Seabee. He always was involved in community activities and was a member of the Rector First Baptist Church.

He was a people person who loved to laugh and tease. He very much enjoyed his family and friends and his antics and jabs of humor will be long remembered.

Survivors include his wife, Dortha, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tracy Webb of Cherokee Village; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Alma Webb of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and one sister, Louise McCord of St. Louis.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Bryce and Joe Webb.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Ardell Polk officiating. Interment was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
