Mohawk tennis sweeps CRA

The Piggott Mohawk tennis teams swept Crowley's Ridge Academy recently in a set played at Jonesboro. With the win the girl's team improved to 2-0-1 overall, while the two-man boy's team remains unbeaten at 3-0.

In girls singles action it was a Mohawk sweep, with Haley French beating Aubrey Jane Hicks 6-2, Alex Scheffler downed Julie White 6-0, Chelsea Covarrubia beat Sarah Stidman 6-0, Hallie Vannada downed Jessica Ellis 6-1 and Lauren Brown slid by Katie Wilkerson 6-4.

In doubles play it was the team of Emily Graddy and Taylor Covert over Hicks and White 6-3, while the team of Elizabeth Ermert and Vanessa Johnson dropped their set to Stidman and Ellis 1-6 for the only CRA win of the day.

In boy's single play it was Mark Greaney over David Ramsey 6-1, and Grant Stewart 6-0, while Beau Alex downed Chandler Cupp and Luke Ellis by scores of 6-0.

In doubles action it was the duo of Greaney and Alex over Matt Wall and Colby Wallis 6-0 and A.J.McCoy and Cole Pearson 6-1.

The girl's team was scheduled to play a set against Caruthersville this Monday afternoon, and both squads were scheduled to take on both Pocahontas and Highland in a tri-match at Pocahontas on Tuesday. Next Monday, Sept. 21 both teams are scheduled to face conference rivals Harding Academy and Harrisburg, along with the Westside Warriors, in a match at Jonesboro. The next day, Tuesday, Sept. 22 both teams will visit Corning for a conference match and on Thursday, Sept. 24 the squads will visit Pocahontas for a non-conference set with the Redskins.
