The Tribe was scheduled to visit conference rival Brookland Tuesday evening, and will host the Hoxie Lady Mustangs Thursday at PHS in yet another conference set.
Last Thursday the much-improved Harrisburg Lady Hornets visited PHS, with the Mohawk junior "B" winning their game 25-8, followed by a sweep by the junior varsity 25-18 and 25-15 over the visitors. The senior "B" squad kept the winning ways going, as they took their game 25-16.
In the varsity set the Lady Hornets came out hot and took the first game 19-25, but Coach Melissa Williams rallied the Mohawks and they came from behind to take the second game 25-18. The Tribe then closed out the visitors with a 25-23 win in game three and a 25-18 decision in the final contest of the set.
Saturday the Lady Mohawks made the long drive to Harrison to take part in the annual "Slamfest" tournament, and brought home the third place trophy. In the tournament the Mohawks first faced Greenbrier, and pulled out a couple of nail-biters 27-25 and 27-25. The Tribe then dropped a set to eventual champion Paragould 23-25 and 13-25. In the consolation final they got by Harrison 25-17, 21-25 and 15-12 to wrap-up third place. Meanwhile, Paragould beat Brookland in the title match as it was an all NEARK top three.
Monday evening the Mohawks visited Bay for a non-conference set. In the junior high match it was the Lady Mohawks in three games, 25-8, 21-25 and 25-12. And in the varsity match the Lady Mohawks took three straight, 25-10, 15-16 and 25-12.
Along with Thursday night's home contest with Hoxie, the junior Lady Mohawks are also scheduled to take part in a junior tournament at Valley View this weekend. Both squads will be in action next Tuesday, Sept. 22 as Crowley's Ridge Academy visits PHS for an important conference match. Next Thursday, Sept. 24 all teams will visit Harrisburg and on Saturday, Sept. 26 the senior team will participate in the annual "Playday" at Arkansas State University.
