Lady Mohawk win golf regional at SCCC

The Piggott Lady Mohawks hosted the Class 3A Region 2 girl's golf tournament Thursday at Sugar Creek Country Club and took the team title. Medalist honors went to Byshea Bowers of Corning, as she shot a 101 and was one of the six players not on the top three teams to qualify for the state tournament.

The Lady Mohawks blistered the competition with a 363 team score to finish 12 strokes ahead of second place Rivercrest. Manila's Lady Lions also qualified for the state tournament by taking third with a 391.

Leading the Tribe was Allison Gurley with a 106, while Breanna Wright shot 125, Kayla Morgan had a 132 and Mallory Wright shot 142.

Along with Bowers other individuals qualifying for the state tournament were Courtney Nickelson of Brinkley, Samantha Anderton of Rose Bud, Heather Bennett of Brinkley, Sarah Madron of Rose Bud and Marilyn Winston of Tuckerman.

The state tournament will be played beginning Sept. 30 at Big Creek Country Club near Harrison and is being hosted by Bergman High School.
