The seventh grade played the early contest, and romped over the young Cavemen with touchdowns by Eli Smith, Bradley Stephens, Nick McKinnie and a two point conversion by Garrett Cook. "All the defensive players really stepped it up a notch," Coach Michael Harrell said of the shut-out as the seventh grade squad moved to 2-0.
In the junior contest the young Tribe ran roughshod over the Cave City team with Cody Mantz and Kain Haywood each scoring two touchdowns, while Parrish Mantz added another and Login Mooningham caught a pass for a two-point conversion.
Cody Mantz led the offensive attack with 140 yards on just six carries, as he now has over 240 yards on 15 carries this season. Haywood finished with 47 yards on seven carries despite being under the weather. The junior Mohawks racked-up 254 yards on the ground as they moved to 2-0 on the season.
The juniors will be back in action with a 7 p.m. kickoff this Thursday, Sept. 24 as they host the Bulldogs of Earle. Next Thursday, Oct. 1 they'll begin the road portion of this year's schedule as they travel to Harrisburg and take on the Hornets.
