The Piggott Mohawk seventh grade and junior high football teams completed another sweep last Thursday evening, as they both posted wins over Earle at Parker Field.

In the seventh grade game the young Mohawks remain undefeated as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on for the victory.

In the junior high game the Mohawks ran out to a lead, and again held on down the stretch, as they posted a 24-20 win behind a big night by Cody Mantz.

Mantz had 148 yards rushing on 14 carries for the Tribe on the night, as the junior offense rolled up a total of 289 yards on the ground.

The Mohawks scored their first touchdown about midway through the first quarter as Luke Brewer took it in from five yards out. Kain Haywood then added the two point conversion and the Tribe enjoyed an early lead. But the Bulldogs answered a short time later with a touchdown of their own; although he two point conversion attempt was no good. At that point the score stood 8-6.

Mantz then ran it in from six yards out for the second Piggott TD of the night, and quarterback Logan Murray hit Logan Mooningham for the two point conversion to make it 16-6. Parrish Mantz added a 20 yard touchdown run with just seconds left in the first half to make it 24-6 at the break.

In the second half of play the Mohawks were unable to put any more points up on the board, as the Bulldogs scored twice in the final nine and a half minutes of play.

With the 24-20 win the junior Mohawks extend their season record to 3-0 and 2-0 in 3A-3 conference play. They're scheduled to travel to Harrisburg Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Hornets. Next Thursday they're slated to visit Hoxie and on Thursday, Oct. 15 they'll return home for a conference game with Rivercrest.
