He was born Nov 9, 1927, in Piggott to Ruth and Ralph Hampton, Sr. He attended Arkansas State University, received his B.S.B.A. degree from the University of Arkansas, and concluded his MA. ED. at the University of Missouri. He also studied at the University of Arizona, San Diego State University and Grossmont College. Later he attended Inter-Agency Bank Examiner School at the Federal Reserve Building in Washington, D.C.
His professional career led him in many directions, serving as a Bank Examiner, representative dealer for Phillips Oil and as a pioneer in the sales of industrial packaging. He also served as a professor, director of continuing education, assistant to the academic dean, assistant to the president and lecturer for the marketing department for various colleges and universities in California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Missouri and Michigan.
He served in Japan during World War II assigned to the Military Government. During the Korean War he was sent back to Japan, and then to Korea, where he was assigned to the Korean Military Advisory Group.
He loved to travel, sail his boat, fly his plane, play golf and write. He wrote extensive Bible studies, taught Sunday school and was a longtime member of the Gideons. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betty Sevic Waldron Hampton; two daughters, Joanna Windschitl of Waconia, Minn., and Angela Hampton of Valley, Neb.; two granddaughters, Brittany and Cortney Arnold of San Diego, Calif.; four grandsons, Dawson and Colton Houser of Valley, Neb., and Jonah and Justin Windschitl of Waconia, Minn., along with two great-granddaughters.
He also is survived by two stepdaughters and their husbands, Terry and Gary McElligott of Dardanelle and Amy and Troy Rickertsen of Moberly, Mo.; five stepsons and their wives, Danny and Teresa Waldron and Barry and Debbie Waldron, all of Dardanelle, Gregory and Tammy Waldron of Spencer, Va., Jeffrey Waldron of Bassett, Va., and Randy and Nancy Waldron who are stationed in Germany; seven step-grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Branson Berry of Dardanelle, Adam and Ashley Waldron of Conway, Erin and Tony Rogers of Rogers, Amber and Gary Garrison of Lamar, Logan Waldron of Spencer, Va., and Emma and Max Waldron of Germany. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hampton of Piggott.
Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 5 at Durvin Cemetery with Rev. Don Irwin officiating. Pallbearers included Danny, Barry and Adam Waldron and Gary McElligott.

Cornwell Funeral Service of Dardanelle was charged with the arrangements.
