At 7 p.m., prior to the 7:30 kickoff, this year's homecoming court will be introduced and recognized. This year members of the 1949 Mohawk football team are also being honored and two of the three surviving team members will be riding in the parade Friday afternoon.
The annual royalty assembly is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at PHS and students named to the court this year include seventh grade maid Katilin Hobbs, daughter of Misty Chandler and Freedom Hobbs, and eighth grade maid Julianna Jordan, daughter of Rex and Kelly Jordan. Katilin is scheduled to be escorted at the assembly by Cody Whitten, while Julianna will be escorted by Garrett Daniels.
The freshman maids are Meagan Massey, daughter of Jerry and Michelle Massey, and Hollie Holcomb, daughter of Candice Holcomb and Lance Holcomb. Meagan's escort will be Blake Griffin, while Hollie will be escorted by Taylor Wood.
This year's sophomore maids are Alex Scheffler, daughter of Bradley and Sandy Scheffler, and Macy Buchanan, daughter of Lori and Dewayne Weeks and Thomas Buchanan. Alex's escort is Daniel Chandler, while Macy will be escorted by Jerad McKinnie.
Junior maids for 2009 are Whitley Blue, daughter of J.C. and Tonya Helms, and Jill Parker, daughter of Jennifer Frederick and Shawn Parker. Tanner Murray will serve as Whitley's escort at the assembly, while Colby Lovelace will escort Jill.
This year's senior maid is exchange student Mariya Faka, whose host parents are Duane and Annette Dutka, and the senior maid of honor is Erin Somers, daughter of Chris Somers and Junior Somers. Mariya will be escorted by David Blackburn, while Erin will be escorted by Kenneth Blackmon and Hayden McMillon.
The 2009 Piggott Lady Mohawk volleyball beau is Trent Edwards, son of Steve and LuAnn Edwards. He'll be escorted by Kelsey Nagy.
And this year's Piggott Mohawk football homecoming queen is Corrie Lehmann, daughter of Larry and Patti Lehmann. She'll be escorted by Cord Pike and Hayden Risinger at the royalty assembly, and her attendants include Micah Harrell, daughter of Michael and Amber Harrell, and Pearson Hearn, son of Shawn and Crystal Hearn.
Also on the schedule for Friday is the annual pep rally at 1 p.m. and the homecoming parade is set to get underway at 2.
Serving as honorary Grand Marshalls for the parade will be Jim Richardson and W.W. "Hoot" Gipson, members of the Mohawk football team of 1949. The only other surviving member of the squad, Richard Clark, is recovering from surgery and was unable to make the trip from his home in Texas.
The annual Homecoming Dance will start after game and will be going on until 11 p.m. in the middle gym of PHS. Admission to the dance is $5 which includes a drink and snack. Door prizes to be given away include two passes to "Horror in the Hollow", a $25 gift certificate to Strawberry's Dining Hall and six passes to Paragould Cinema 8, among other items. Homecoming pictures also will be taken at the dance and packages will be available for purchase starting at $10.
