Clyde Jones of 397 South Garfield was sitting in the living room of his home around mid-morning when the Ford Expedition rammed into an adjacent bedroom.
"I was sitting there in the living room and I heard this big noise," Jones told police at the scene. "It made a big noise. I didn't know what it was but it really scared me."
According to reports from the Piggott Police Department, the accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. as the vehicle was being driven northbound on South Garfield Street. Apparently the driver, Carla Fisher, 37, of Campbell suffered from some unknown medical condition and lost control of the truck. The vehicle left the pavement 138 feet south of the Jones residence, crossed the corner of a yard belonging to Kevin Vannada, destroying several small trees, then jumped East Locust Street just west of the intersection with Garfield.
The large SUV then vaulted Jones' garden plot and impacted the northeast corner of his residence over a foot off the ground. The truck crashed through the wall of the home and came to rest with about five feet of the front of the vehicle resting inside the bedroom.
Police reports indicated Fisher was transported from the scene to Piggott Community Hospital by ambulance. No further indication of her injuries, or what may have caused the mishap, were contained in the police report. No citations were issued by the investigating officer.
The truck was pulled from its resting place and towed by C&S Auto and Wrecker of Piggott. City utility crews also responded to the scene and were on standby as the vehicle was removed from the residence.
According to Piggott police chief Bill Alstadt, as of Monday no estimate was available on the damage to Jones' home. Alstadt also indicated that damage to the vehicle was believed to be minor.
