The Piggott Mohawks won the 2-A football championship Friday, Nov. 14 as they visited the Corning Bobcats and shut out their cross-county rivals 28-0. Rick Rodery had the first touchdown of the game, and the following Bobcat drive ended as Kenny Payne recovered a fumble on the Mohawk 13. In the second half Jimmy Johnson hit Richard Robinson for two TD's, and Rodery ran another, as Tim Huffman was a perfect four for four in PAT attempts. The win earns the Mohawks a shot at 3-A Augusta, and the two teams will meet Friday, Nov. 21 at Kays Stadium at ASU.

Also this week, deer season will be Nov. 27-29 in Clay County and only bucks will be harvested this year; meanwhile, Greenway High School will observe homecoming Nov. 21 as they host the Knobel Mustangs.

A break-in at Taylor Motors in Piggott netted thieves $125 in cash, and the suspects left the scene in a new black and green Chrysler 300. Meanwhile, Gertrude B. Hollins has retired from the Cooperative Extension Service after 23 years of service, the past six in Clay County.

The Lions Auction is set for Nov. 22 and the proceeds will go toward lighting and a sound system for the PHS gym.
