The city of Piggott now boasts another state-of-the art facility. Magnolia Manor officially opened to residents last week. The assisted care facility has been under construction since last October. It was built by General Baptist Health Care and features over 30 units of varying size.

The Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday morning to officially mark the opening. That afternoon, several hundred people turned out for an open house and took advantage of the opportunity to tour the new facility.

"We currently have studio apartments, one bedroom units and two bedroom suites available for immediate occupancy," noted Bill Straw, marketing director for General Baptist Health Care.

Magnolia Manor, located adjacent to Piggott Community Hospital along the west edge of the grounds, is a multi-million dollar project. And to the benefit of the region, it has been estimated that over 75 percent of the cost of the effort remained in the local economy as the company utilized area suppliers and contractors. The completion of the job also has meant the creation of several new jobs, with more planned as the units are being occupied.

Members of the corporation's board of directors and CEO Jack Cole attended the ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday morning and later gathered in the facility's new conference room. That afternoon administrator Sue Cole and the staff hosted the open house and debuted the building to an approving public.

Magnolia Manor has 34 residential units, an expansive dining room, state-of-the-art kitchen, library, exercise room and meeting rooms. The facility also includes a large lobby with two-sided faux fireplace and is tastefully decorated throughout. The units include 14 studio apartments, 18 of the one bedroom units and two of the two-bedroom units.

Each aspect of the facility has been developed with the residents in mind, from the layout of the units to the oversized numbers and letters on the thermostats throughout the building. In planning the effort the latest technology was used, from the call system that is found in every room to the oven in the kitchen. That piece of equipment has the ability to cook five different shelves at five different temperatures and provide a printout of what temperatures were achieved during the cooking process.

Apartments are unfurnished, allowing resident to take their personal furniture and belongings. The facility offers 24-hour supervision, three buffet-style meals each day in the dining room, personal care assistance, assistance with medication, activities and exercise programs and laundry and linen service. Magnolia Manor accepts private pay, Arkansas Medicaid and long term insurance care.

What a nice (and needed!) facility for Piggott. Magnolia Manor sounds a lot like the assisted living facility in Fort Smith where my mother lived for two years when she could no longer live alone. I'm sure there are lots of former residents who will be relieved that there is a place in Piggott for their parents to live once they can't live alone but don't quite need nursing home care. Congratulations to the community and to the developers. This sounds like a real win-win situation for all.

Hi:

I just came back from visiting my in-laws who are living in this facility. They are the only occupants at this time because my father-in-law has been waiting like a kid for this facility to be open. He is one happy camper. This facility is also very enjoyable for those who visit too. I had a good time hanging out in the the library, recreation and exercise room. And wow, the food at the meals was delicious. My husband and I were concerned about his parents living at the farm house for another winter. We both feel so much better that they are living in this quality facility.
