Voices of thanks

Thursday, November 26, 2009
Two beautiful songs by the Rector High School choir were a highlight of Rector's ninth annual community Thanksgiving service, held Sunday evening, Nov. 22, at the Community Center. Directed by Judy Hargrave, the choir sang "American Hymn" and "United We Stand," earning a standing ovation from the large crowd. Rev. Ardell Polk, pastor of the First Baptist Church, spoke on reasons for thankfulness and all present joined in singing "God Bless America" and "How Great Thou Art." Other participating area ministers were Velda Bell of the First United Methodist Church, Phillip LaRue of New Life Christian Center, Marston Carpenter of the First General Baptist Church, Mike Miller of Eastside/Holly Island Baptist Church and James Henry Dortch of Blue Cane General Baptist Church. Special recognitions were made by Mayor Ron Kemp. (Democrat photo/Nancy Kemp)
