Mohawks downed on the road

Thursday, November 26, 2009
The Piggott Mohawks took on the Tuckerman Bulldogs for the second time this season last Friday night, and dropped a pair of conference games. Tuesday night the Tribe was scheduled to visit the Corning Bobcats. Next week both the junior and senior boys will take part in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Weiner, and will visit the Harrisburg Hornets in conference play.

Junior Mohawks at Tuckerman

The Piggott junior Mohawks traveled to Tuckerman last Friday night and ran into a buzzsaw of a Bulldog team, as they dropped a 36-70 conference game. The young Bulldogs, coming off a loss the night before, took out their frustrations on the Tribe as they beat the Mohawks for the second time this season.

Leading the Mohawks in scoring were Luke Brewer and Jacob Richardson with six points each, with Richardson getting his points coming off the bench.

The junior Mohawks were scheduled to visit Corning Tuesday night, and will return to action next Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Harrisburg.

The junior Mohawks are the fourth-seeded team in the upcoming Pre-Holiday Tournament at Weiner. They'll play Brookland at 5:45, Monday, Dec. 7 in the first round. With a win over the Bearcats they'll move into the winner's bracket and will play the winner of the Bay-Weiner contest at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. With a loss they'll move into the loser's bracket, and will play the loser of that contest at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.

Mohawks at Tuckerman

The Piggott Mohawks traveled to Tuckerman last Friday night and fell to the Bulldogs for the second time in less than two weeks. And as it was in their first meeting, the Tribe blew a double-digit lead in taking the loss.

In their first meeting in the season opener, the Mohawks jumped out to a 15 point lead on the Bulldogs at PHS only to see that evaporate. Last Friday they again jumped out to an early lead and were up 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Tribe then extended that to a 10 point halftime lead, as they took a 43-33 lead into the locker room at intermission.

But the Bulldogs responded in the second half, as they outscored the Tribe 15-10 in the third quarter and 26-14 in the fourth, to notch the win by a final of 67-57.

Leading the way for the Mohawks was senior Trent Edwards with 17, while Hayden McMillon was also in double figures with 10.

With the loss the Mohawks fall to 0-4 overall, and 0-2 in conference play. They were scheduled to be in action Tuesday night at Corning, and the senior team will be taking part in at tournament at Cooter, Mo. next week.

The senior Mohawks will play the Delta C-7 Chargers at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. They'll then travel to Harrisburg for a conference set with the Hornets next Tuesday. At 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 they'll take on the Southland Rebels at Cooter and at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 they'll take on the host Cooter Wildcats in tournament action.
