The junior girls visited CRA last Thursday evening and brought home their first win of the season by a final of 30-19. Jessie Scheffler paced the Mohawk attack with 10 points on the game.
As the contest got underway at Paragould the home team jumped out to an early lead, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Falcons were up 10-4. But the Mohawks outscored CRA 6-3 in the second quarter to pull to 10-13 at the half.
The junior Mohawks stepped up their defensive effort in the second half, as they outscored the home team 10-1 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth quarter, to cruise to the win.
Tuckerman
The Lady Bulldogs of Tuckerman visited PHS Monday night, and in junior girls action pulled out a 45-42 come-from-behind win over the Mohawks.
The Piggott junior girls jumped out to an early lead in Monday night's game, and were up 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Tribe then outscored the visitors 17-8 in the second quarter as they took a 30-19 lead into the locker room at the half. But in the third and fourth quarters the Tuckerman girls made their adjustments, and they outscored the Mohawks 6-11 and 6-15 in the final two frames.
Kacey Crossfield led the Mohawks on the game with 15, while Hannah Wagster had 12 and Scheffler was also in double figures with 11. Sara Shipman led the Lady Bulldog attack with 13 points. As a team the Mohawks shot a dismal 8 of 22 from the free throw line, while Tuckerman converted on 9 of 11 attempts.
With the win over CRA, and the lost to Tuckerman, the junior girls stand at 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. They're scheduled to take on Harrisburg in the first round of the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Weiner at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. With a win they'll play again at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 and if they lose they'll move to the consolation bracket and play at 4 p.m. Friday.
