The Lady Mohawks visited CRA last week and dropped a 48-61 decision, despite leading much of the ballgame. Three Mohawks had 12 points each in the loss, as the Tribe continued to look for their first win of the season.
AS the contest got underway the Lady Mohawks played even with the Falcons, and trailed 12-16 at the end of the first quarter. In the second frame the Tribe went on a run and outscored the hosts 20-10 as they took a 32-26 lead into the half. In the third period the Falcons came roaring back, as they outscored the Piggott girls 13-4 in the period, and they led 39-36 going into the final frame. In that fourth quarter the Lady Falcons outscored the Tribe 22-12 as they took the win.
Penny McCluskey, Heather Scott and Breanna Wright each had 12 points in the loss, while Mallory Wright finished with seven and Jana Corter had five. Ashlyn Abbott paced the Falcons in the win with 25. As a team the Lady Mohawks were 11 of 15 from the charity stripe, while CRA converted on 13 of 23 free-throw attempts.
Tuckerman
The Piggott Lady Mohawks fell victim to the press, and three-point-shooting, of the Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs Monday night as they dropped a 39-54 conference game at PHS.
In the early going neither team was able to gain much advantage, and after the first quarter Tuckerman enjoyed a lead of 18-13 over the home team. The visitors then outscored the Lady Mohawks 9-4 in the second quarter as they extended the lead to 27-17 by the halftime break.
In the third quarter of play the Lady Bulldogs doubled-up the Tribe, outscoring the Piggott girls 14-7, as they led 41-24 going into the final frame. And although the Mohawks outscored the visitors 15-13 in the fourth quarter it was too-little-too-late.
On the game the Mohawks were led in scoring by Mallory Wright with 11, while Penny McCluskey and Taylor Coomer had eight each and Heather Scott and Breanna Wright had five apiece. Amanda McGhee led the Lady Bulldogs with 22.
With the two losses the Lady Mohawks fall to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in 3A-3 conference play. They'll next be in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Weiner as they take on Bay. With a win they'll move into the next round and will play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. If they fall to the Lady Yellowjackets in the first round they'll move into the consolation bracket and will play at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.
