Mohawks at Corning
Dating back to senior night at the conclusion of the 2007-2008 season, the Mohawks have reigned supreme on the Bobcats home turf. Last Tuesday this year's edition of the Tribe kept that streak alive with a 46-29 win.
The only time the Bobcats were in the game was in the early going, as a slow start led to a n 8-6 Corning lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second frame the Mohawks outscored their hosts 12-6, as they took an 18-14 lead in the locker room at intermission.
The Tribe went on to outscore the Bobcats 11-6 in the third, and 17-9 in the fourth as they cruised to the win.
Samples paced the attack with 12, including two three-pointers, while Spencer Coomer finished with 11, Trent Edwards had 10, Tanner Murray finished with 9 and Jon Perkins had 4 points in the win.
Mohawks vs Delta C-7
"This was the first game all year that our kids really shot well," Coach Josh Robins surmised of Monday night's win over Delta C-7 at the Cooter Invitational Tournament.
The Tribe, behind an 18 point night for Coomer that included five three-pointers, easily beat the Chargers 72-52. Coomer also had three steals on the game, and was 7 of 10 from the free throw line.
At no point was the contest really at question, as the Mohawks had leads of 13-9 at the end of the first quarter and 28-21 at the halftime break. They extended their lead to 52-34 at the end of three, and cruised to the 20 point win.
Tanner Murray finished with 15 points, and 15 rebounds, while Edwards and Hayden McMillon had 9 points each in the win. As a team the Mohawks were 12 of 21 from the charity stripe, while the Chargers were 7 of 13 from the freethrow line. Leading the way for Delta C-7 was Damien Flowers with 25 points, including five three pointers.
With the two wins the Mohawks improve to 2-4 overall, and 1-2 in 3A-3 conference play. They're scheduled to take on the Southland Rebels at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 at Cooter. And will face the home team Cooter Wildcats with an 8 p.m. tip-off this Friday night. The Mohawks also will be playing in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Weiner next week.
