Velis Ray "Tootie" Bateman

Velis Ray "Tootie" Bateman, 78, of Marmaduke passed away on Nov. 27, 2009.

Mr. Bateman was born on Aug. 11, 1931, to the late Sidney and Stella

(Morley) Bateman in Rector, Ark. He was retired from U.S. Pipe

in Riverside, Calif., and Delta Cotton Cooperative in Marmaduke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter,

Janet Bateman on Oct. 17, 2007; three sisters, Berniece Morris,

Bonnie Davis and Ann Kang; two brothers, Harrison Bateman and Dub

Bateman, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Slim and Ruby Kirkpatrick.

Survivors are his loving wife of 59 years, Katherine (Kirkpatrick)

Bateman of the home; a son, Steve Bateman and wife Melanie Bateman of

Marmaduke; three daughters and their spouses, Susan and Michael Jordan

of Rosebud, Ore., Peggy and Frank Wright of Dupont, Wash., and

Shawna and Darrin Boggs of Marmaduke; three brothers, Wallace Bateman

of Michigan, Darrell Bateman of Michigan and Jerry Bateman of Knobel,

eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, in

the Harvey's Chapel Cemetery with Brother Kim Bridges officiating.

Visitation began at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, in the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke.
