RES GT students will be holding a special talent and project show on Dec. 12 to benefit area children.
Rector Elementary Gifted and Talented Students will participate at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the third annual GT Christmas Talent, Art and Project Show, to be held in the elementary multi-purpose room.

All 37 elementary GT students will participate in some way.

The first portion of the show will consist of a project tour. Students will participate in this part of the show by making crafts or art projects, baking and distributing free samples, or by completing science or educational projects. Students will stand by their projects and interact with the crowd by sharing information and answering questions about their projects.

After the project show, a talent show will begin. Students will sing, play instruments, dance, read original poetry or perform other types of variety and comedy acts. As an added feature this year, family members will be allowed to be in the talent show with the GT students.

Since the show is in December, many of the students have chosen acts and projects that tie in with Christmas.

According to elementary GT instructor Candy Williams, the event not only will allow students the opportunity to share their skills, but also will help raise funds for those who may have unmet needs this holiday season.

"This show is being held as a community service outreach," Williams said. "No admission will be charged, but donations to help needy Rector Elementary students have warm coats, hats, gloves and shoes will be gladly accepted."

On behalf of her students, as well as the many children who stand to benefit from the event, Williams would like to encourage the entire community to attend the show.

"Please don't miss the opportunity to watch these students let their talents shine. I am so proud of my students and am excited about this show. The public is cordially invited to attend. Last year's show was a huge success, raising $300 dollars for underprivileged students. Rector is a kind, helpful, caring town. Please don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a fabulous show and to help others."

Those unable to attend the show who are interested in helping this worthy cause may contact the Rector Elementary office at 870-595-3358 for information and details.
