Roy Ray Henderson, 67, of Nesbit, Miss. woke up in the arms of the Lord Dec. 6, 2009, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born April 2, 1942, in Newark, Ark. Roy grew up on a farm in Piggott, which he loved. He was only 10 years old when he drove a whole team of horses to put in the family's crops.

He met the love of his life, Linda, in high school. They rode the bus together; however he usually had to sit in the front as he was blessed with a mischievous sense of humor. After high school Roy proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves.

He and Linda married at Calls Chapel Church near Piggott. They moved into their first home in Southaven, Miss., and started a family. He was a very special husband and father. He provided many hours of fun and laughter for his daughters and their friends.

Roy was known around Southaven for his big red Ford truck. He drove a truck for Consolidated Freightways for 30 years until his retirement. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He could build or fix anything that came along. He loved to spend hours in his workshop.

He made friends with everyone he met, from other truck drivers to people walking down the street, and everyone in between. Roy was kind, lived life to the fullest and was generous to all who were fortunate to know him.

The family would like to thank his extraordinary caregivers, Carol Willis, Coretta Ferrell and North Mississippi Hospice. A very special heartfelt thank you to all the "Angels" for your prayers, support, patience, visits, phone calls and cards.

Roy was a member of Longview Heights Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold and Fern Henderson, and his beloved twin sister, Cathy Henderson Edwards. He is survived by his cherished wife, Linda; daughters, Linda Henderson Lee (Robert) and Natalie Henderson; a brother, Harold Henderson, and brother-in-law Glen Edwards (Ruth Bray). He was especially proud of his grandsons, Trip Doyle, Cody Doyle and Zachary Shaw.

The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Miss. A celebration of his life was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the funeral home with burial at Lebanon Cemetery on Bethel Road in Olive Branch.
