Live nativity display marks 25th year

Thursday, December 17, 2009
More than 12,000 people have witnessed a beautiful re-creation of the birth of Christ over the last 25 years through the Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church's "Journey to Bethlehem" live nativity.

As the church celebrates the 25th year of the display, visitors are invited from 7 to 9 nightly Friday through Sunday, Dec. 18 through 20.

The church is located in Piggott and is easily found. Visitors should turn right onto Fourth Street by the Piggott Fire Station and continue three miles to the end of the pavement.

"What began in 1985 with a single stable scene to show the true significance of Christmas has now evolved into an annual event with six walk-through scenes from Isaiah's prophecy to the final stable scene of Christ's birth, to show the true events of the Christmas story," said pastor Charles Richardson.

Journey to Bethlehem features live animals, including donkeys, llamas, goats and sheep.
