Marvelle was born in Marmaduke, Arkansas, on April 1, 1927, to Lawson and Lutie Swindle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, the late Mayor Bill J. Harmon Sr. of Sherwood; her parents; her brother, Robert Swindle, and her sister, Velda Hammons.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons and one daughter, Billy J. Harmon Jr. and wife Sue of Sherwood, Hank Harmon and wife Diane of Carrollton, Texas, and Lampe Mo., Charlie Harmon and wife Monica of Sherwood and Mary L. Harmon of New York, N.Y. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends, all who loved her dearly.
She retired after 37 years of teaching in Arkansas schools, spending her last 24 teaching fourth grade in Sherwood. She was an avid reader and an active member of First Baptist church of Sherwood since 1966. She was the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2005. She was also always active in her community and was a past member of the Sherwood Hometown Health Coalition and the Sherwood History Book Committee, which wrote the 2002 book, "The Signs Still Say Sherwood."
She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be missed dearly. How many years has it been, however since she had spent Christmas without her husband, Bill, and this one won't be any different. She will be celebrating Christmas with him, and with Christ himself.
Visitation was at North Little Rock Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 until 4.
Funeral service was held at First Baptist Church of Sherwood on Monday at 2 with burial following at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills in Sherwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Sherwood or Abundant Life Schools of Sherwood.
