Velma Rigdon

Velma Jean Rigdon, 76, of McDougal went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Baptist East Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

She was born December 23, 1933, at McDougal, and was the daughter of the late John Franklin "Buster" and Bertha Opal (Stanley) Young.

She was united in marriage to Delmar "Sonny" Rigdon on Dec. 22, 1951. To this union three daughters were born.

She was a longtime member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church in McDougal.

She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Denzil Young and Donald Young, and her son-in-law, Sherrell Hoggard.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Sonny Rigdon of McDougal; three daughters, Vicky Johnson and husband Barry of Piggott, Pamela Jean Hoggard of Piggott and Tamara Camp and husband Chris of Ashland City, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Aaron Johnson of Fayetteville, Michael Hoggard and wife Ashley of Maumelle, Ark., Amanda Jones and husband Jake of Conway, Stephanie Lowe and husband Jerrod of Piggott, along with Lee Camp and Catherine Camp, both of Ashland City, Tenn.; three great-grandsons, Mason Daniel Lowe, Caden James Hoggard and Clay Madden Jones; brothers, Earl Devon Young and wife Norma of McDougal and Winfred Johnson, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bro. Leon Harvey officiating and Bro. Scott Small assisting. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were Aaron Johnson, Michael Hoggard, Lee Camp, Jake Jones, Jerrod Lowe and Reece Crawford. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Morrisett, Wayne Allman, Virgil Rice, Jr., Lee Honeycutt, Kenneth Ort, Jerry Little, Michael Young, Tim Young and Trey Rigdon.
