Dec. 5, 2009, marked another shining moment in our community. shining how, you may be asking. Two graduating 2010 seniors from Piggott High School and Rector High School will be receiving $500 scholarships from the Clay County Arts Council, Inc., made possible through the silent auction which took place during the Night of Chocolate, hosted Dec. 5 by the CCAC.
"The CCAC is able to provide these scholarships because of the businesses in this area that provided the spectacular items which represent the outstanding retail opportunities we have in Clay County," said CCAC president Gail Burns. "It is exciting to see the fantastic shopping we have locally and the merchants give only their best items for the CCAC to feature in the silent auction."
This year the CCAC raised $1,250 during the Night of Chocolate silent auction.
The Clay County Arts Council expresses thanks to these businesses for donating items:
Rector -- Now & Then; Above & Beyond Salon; The Wise Company; Barbara and Sherland Hamilton, Hamilton Farms; Harps; Rector Flower Shop by Becky; Gail and Joe Burns, Burns Farms; Rector Downtown Drug; Mary Kay by Johnny Williams; Barbi Terry Photography; ALL THAT, April Lindsey; Gail Ford Originals, and Rector Flowers & Gifts.

Individuals or businesses who want to be featured in the next scholarship silent auction, to be held during the CCAC's Celebration of the Arts June 5 at the Rector Community Center, may call Barbi Terry at (573) 344-2942.
"Space is limited, but 100 percent of the money raised from the scholarship auction goes toward scholarships for graduating seniors in Clay County and it is a great way to showcase your business," Burns said.
The remaining $250 will be used as scholarships for dance workshops hosted by CCAC during May 2010. The workshops are led by Rector teacher Amber Powell. Powell's dancers also will take part in the exciting entertainment to be provided during the "Celebration of Arts" June 5 at the Rector Community Center.
