Harding University at Searcy hosted the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games May 20-22 and several regional athletes competed.

The week prior to the games law enforcement officers conducted a torch run to raise awareness and financial support for the Special Olympics. Those gathering for the group photo are Piggott Special Olympics athletes, their coach, Theresa Book and local officers from city, county and state agencies. The local torch run was held Monday, May 17, along Main Street in Piggott.

Taking part in the fundraising effort locally were Piggott police chief Bill Alstadt, along with patrolmen Jeremy Wicker and Scott Redmon; Deputy Chris Simpson of the Clay County Sheriff's Department and troopers Terry Burdin and Mark Vavak of the Arkansas State Police.
