One of the local teams headed to state tournament play in the coming weeks is the Piggott 12-and-under girl's softball All-Stars. The girls are scheduled to play against a team from Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Friday, July 9 at Blytheville. That tournament will be going on through Monday, July 12.

This is basically the same group of girls that won the Arkansas State Championship in the 10-and-under age bracket last year. The team coaches also noted that the girl's are fired up and ready to bring the title home to Piggott again this year. "We want to say thanks to all who supported the team, and we're proud to represent our hometown of Piggott," a team spokesman added. "Come on out and cheer us on at Blytheville."

The squad is coached by Ambra Staples, Jason Beck, Tereasa Holifield and Bryan Lynch. Team members include--Tara Vaughn, Devyn Staples, Brooke Moore, Taylor Choate, Tori Hill, Kayla Bellers, Colby Lynch, Shelby Morgan, McKenzie Hopkins, Grayson Murray, Makalia Beck, Madison Crittenden and Megan Blue.
