"The Early Literacy Station is designed for kids ages two to 10, or basically toddlers through the third grade," library director Gay Johnson noted. "The project was made possible through a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Arkansas State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act."
The system is pre-loaded with over 60 top-rated developmental software titles designed especially for kids. "We have a total of 31 English titles and 31 Spanish titles in the system," Johnson added.
The catalog includes such offerings as a SpongeBob SquarePants typing tutorial, Sesame Street's Let's Make a Word, Britannica Student Encyclopedia, Sammy's Science House, Microsoft Paint, Encarta Dictionary, MusiCan, Green Eggs and Ham, My First Amazing History, Reader Rabbit and Just Grandma and Me.
"The system is designed to offer kids an age-appropriate, fun learning experience that will contribute to future success in school and to a lifetime love of learning" Johnson said.
The Early Literacy Station is now operational and may be accessed by young patrons of the library during regular hours. Those wanting more information may call 598-3666.
