Officers were called to the Open Roads Motel, on Highway 62 at the east edge of Piggott, around 9 p.m. Tuesday night after an individual took an undetermined amount of cash from the business.
Reports from the Piggott P.D. indicated that the individual, who was dressed all in black and wearing either a mask or hoodie, entered the office of the motel and went straight to the cash drawer. The suspect apparently pushed past the clerk on duty, took the money on hand and fled the scene on foot.
Alstadt indicated that contrary to earlier reports, no weapon was displayed and the motel worker was not directly threatened. In fact, the chief noted that the alleged thief apparently didn't say a word during the incident. He also added that speculation about a foot pursuit involving a suspect was unfounded.
Law enforcement personnel responded to the scene and conducted an extensive search of the vicinity but no suspect was located. As of mid-day Wednesday the investigation continued, and Alstadt noted that anyone that has information pertinent to the case should call the police department at 598-2295 during regular business hours.
