Opal Chavez, 75, of Greenway, Ark., passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
She was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Mobile, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Miller Hiram and Madie Pearl Butler Johns.
She was united in marriage to Antonio "Tony" Chavez on Feb. 15, 1954. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1993. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Hiram, Richard and J.D.; one sister, Nora, and one granddaughter, Kristy Jarrett.
Survivors include nine children, Charlie and Betty Chavez of Georgia, Jesse and Melissa Chavez of Knobel, Ark., Leroy and Leisca Chavez of Piggott, Ark., Elvis and Linda Chavez of Piggott, Ark., Mary Hough of Rector, Ark., Martha and Truman Easley of Cherokee Village, Ark., Rubin Chavez of Lawton, Okla., Noah Chavez of Greenway, Ark., and Magdalene Chavez of Piggott, Ark.; 20 grandchildren, Michael (Jenny), Chris (Whitney), Thomas (Carrie), Alicia (Donald), Ethan, Antonio, Amber (Eric), Gavin, Donna (Jeff), Aaron (Bonnie), Jessica, Joey, Ryan, Laura, Billy, Willie, Michael, Shelby and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Austin, Cammie, Michael, Kaileigh, Trey, Elizabeth, Hannah Adaline, Aidan Cole, Emory, Xavier, Isabella, Carley, Mikaylah, Avery, Brooklyn, Aiden, Dominic Nicole, Tristan, Hershal, Damyn, Lyric, Seth Ethan, Allie and Ethan Sanders; a sister, Frances Black of Desoto, Mo., and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Hoggard & Sons Chapel. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Ark. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., is in charge of the arrangements.
