Betty Reams, 77, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, in Springdale, Ark.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1934, in Piggott, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Emmett and Opal V. Trout Crittenden.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Reams on Dec. 27, 1954, and to this union three children were born.

Betty graduated from Piggott High School in 1952 and attended the College of the Ozarks. In 1955, she was hired by Dr. Gordon Duckworth at the Piggott Hospital. In 1979, Betty accepted the position of administrator of the Piggott Community Hospital during the construction of the new hospital. She was later named Arkansas Rural Hospital Administrator of the Year in 1997. That same year, former mayor Bud Holcomb proclaimed Oct. 19 as Betty Reams Day in Piggott in honor of Betty retiring after 42 years with the Piggott Community Hospital. After her retirement, Betty and her husband Jerry enjoyed traveling together.

She was a life-long and faithful member of the First General Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and serving on several committees.

Betty loved her family, her community and the beach.

She is survived by one son, Alan Reams and wife Melinda of Russellville, Ark.; two daughters, Kathy Hoggard and husband Paul of Piggott, Ark. and Lee Ann Scott and husband Darrell of Rogers, Ark.; seven grandchildren: Kristin Johnson and husband Mark, Kalyn Hoggard, Lauren, Emily, and Taylor Reams, and Madison and Carson Scott; two great -grandchildren, Matalyn Ashlee Johnson and Paul Brooks Johnson; one brother, Jim Crittenden of Piggott, Ark.; one sister, Joy Stender of Piggott, Ark. and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, in the First General Baptist Church in Piggott, Ark. with Jack Cole and Gerald Morris officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers are Keith Crittenden, Tony Crittenden, Brent Simpson, Kalyn Hoggard, Carson Scott and Darrell Scott. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.
