Mohawks at home as league play intensifies

The Mohawks put forth a good effort despite shooting woes on the road at Wilson Monday night, battling the always-tough Rivercrest Colts in a 46-35 loss.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth struggle, with both teams attempting to establish a methodical pace. The opening frame concluded with the hosting Colts holding an 11-10 advantage. The hosts took a 25-19 advantage into intermission and led 34-29 going into the fourth.

Piggott struggled with their shots on the night, making just eight of 25 two point field goals (32 percent) and three of 14 from three-point land for 21 percent.

Lucas Brewer had a good showing for the Tribe, posting 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double performance. Beau Wicker led the Piggott scoring attack with 11 points. Also scoring for the Mohawks were Spencer Coomer 5, Austin Murray 4, Zach Redman 3 and Logan Murray 2.

Junior Boys

The Junior Mohawks were downed, 56-20, in their meeting with Rivercrest.

The hosts led throughout: 18-2l 30-10 and 47-17.

Seth Lacey scored seven points for Piggott. Also scoring for the Junior Mohawks were Nick McKinnie 5, Logan Dixon 2, Nick Harris 2, John Daniel Beck 2 and Brett Fuller 2.

Earle Game

A disastrous second half halted the Mohawks in action with Earle Friday night in Piggott. Leading 25-23 at intermission, the Tribe saw the visiting Bulldogs finish on a 40-10 run to mount a furious comeback in the final two frames for the 63-35 win. Piggott started with a 16-9 advantage through the first quarter, but could not hold the athletic Bulldogs back in the second half. Earle moved ahead 43-30 going into the fourth and outscored the Mohawks 20-5 in the final frame.

Brewer led Piggott with 12 points on the night. Also scoring were Coomer 6, Zach Redman 5, Wicker 5, Austin Murray 4, and Logan Murray 2.

Junior Boys

The Junior Mohawks were downed in their meeting with Earle, 35-24. Piggott trailed throughout: 8-4; 15-11 and 25-18.

Lacey scored eight points for the Junior Mohawks on the night. Also scoring for Piggott were Harris 4, Beck 4, Quinton Mauldin 4, Beau Jett 2 and McKinnie 2.

Piggott is set to visit Manila beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. The Mohawks will host Rivercrest starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
