Ruby Seay, 91, of Rector, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born in Rector in the Leonard Community, May 31, 1920, to Hugh and Pearl Walker. Later, the family moved to Jonesboro, where she attended Valley View School until the eighth grade. At that time, the family returned to Rector to farm. She loved her youthful days in Jonesboro and enjoyed playing basketball at Valley View School.
On May 9, 1937, she married Henry Seay of Rector. They farmed and fished together for most of 68 years. Ruby was an outstanding quilter, took great pride in her flower beds and was delighted by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah (William) Vangilder of Altheimer and Janie Cruce of Jonesboro, and three grandchildren, Keith (Patricia) Vangilder of Bryant, Mona (Tommy) Hargis of Altheimer and Brandon (Jennifer) Cruce of Fort Worth. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Matthew Vangilder, Luke Henry Cruce and Anderson Cruce; two step great-grandchildren, Holden Hargis and Miles Noland, and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector.
Burial was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Rev. Paul Seay officiating. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Rector with Rev. Ardell Polk officiating.
