Mohawks split two at home
The Mohawks split a pair of games last week in Piggott.
Friday night, the Mohawks cruised past Harrisburg, imposing their will upon the visiting Hornets, 69-25.
This one was never in any doubt, as the Tribe got out to an early 21-8 advantage. Piggott had seven players enter the scorers' column in the opening quarter. The Mohawks didn't slow down in the remainder of the first half either, notching 29 points in the second quarter to move ahead 50-17 at halftime. Piggott's lead grew to 40, 62-22, heading into the final frame.
Piggott had 11 players score in the victory, led by 12 from Beau Wicker and 11 by Nick Haywood. Also scoring were Spencer Coomer 9, Logan Brewer 8, Austin Murray 8, Zach Redmon 6, Jacob Richardson 5, Richard Shaw 4, Parrish Mantz 3, Logan Murray 2 and Trevor Grubb 2.
Junior Boys Win
The Junior Mohawks held on for a 37-34 win over Harrisburg.
The game was tight throughout, but the Junior Mohawks managed to stay in front after each quarter: 7-4; 20-18 and 26-24.
Nick McKinney and Quentin Mauldin led Piggott with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Also scoring for the Junior Mohawks were Logan Dixon 5, Seth Lacey 2, Nick Harris 2, Brett Fuller 2 and John Beck 1.
Tuesday night, the Tribe fell to the visiting Rivercrest Colts, 58-48.
A dead period in the second frame hurt the Mohawks in their bid against Riverside. Piggott trailed by just two points, 10-8, after the first quarter, but only managed to score three points--a layup and free throw by senior Coomer--in the critical second frame. The Colts managed just six in the period, but were able to extend their lead to five, 16-11, at intermission.
"We missed an opportunity there," PHS coach Josh Robins said. "It was a close game and a nice little run would have given us control of the game."
Both teams found their rhythm in the third quarter. Piggott notched 18 in the third, but Rivercrest answered with 20 to move ahead 26-29 going into the fourth.
"They got a lead and we would go on a run, then they would go on a run," Robins said. "We just couldn't put everything together at the same time."
Brewer led Piggott with 13 points on the night. Coomer also reached double figures, finishing with 11 points. Also scoring for the Mohawks were Will Jett 9, Wicker 8, Logan Murray 5 and Austin Murray 2.
Khalil Williams led Rivercrest with 16 points.
The Junior Mohawks were downed in their meeting with Rivercrest, 62-36.
Piggott trailed throughout: 11-6; 31-17 and 46-29.
Scoring for the Junior Mohawks were Harris 7, Dixon 6, McKinney 5, Beck 4 and Jordan Blascoe 3.
