Mohawks pick up two victories
The Mohawks were downed on the road Friday night in Hoxie, falling to the hosting Mustangs, 86-69.
The game featured a whopping 50 fouls, with Piggott being called for 29 team fouls and Hoxie receiving 21. The constant whistle blowing hindered the flow of the game, with five Mohawks fouling out during the contest.
Hoxie led throughout: 15-10; 41-29 and 57-48.
Spencer Coomer took advantage of the near-constant whistles, sinking 15 of 18 free throws en route to scoring 21 points for the Mohawks. Zach Redmon and Beau Wicker also scored in double figures, adding 16 and 13 points, respectively. Also scoring for Piggott were Will Jett 6, Austin Murray 5, Lucas Brewer 4, Nick Haywood 2 and Richard Shaw 2.
Colton Watson led Hoxie with 28 points on the night.
Piggott sank 21 of 29 free throws on the night. Hoxie made 26 of 41 attempts at the line.
The Junior Mohawks fell in action at Hoxie, 60-28.
The hosts led throughout: 24-16; 35-20 and 53-22.
Nick McKinney led Piggott with 11 points on the night. Also scoring for the Junior Mohawks were Quentin Mauldin 9, John Daniel Beck 4, Seth Lacey 2 and Beau Jett 2.
The Mohawks ran over the hosting Harrisburg Hornets on the road Thursday evening, cruising to a 61-31 win.
Piggott ran out to a 14-3 first quarter advantage and never looked back, leading at each of the following breaks: 27-18 and 45-23.
"We were able to get into a good rhythm early," PHS head coach Josh Robins said. "I was pleased with how we played. We didn't force anything. We showed good patience and played a smart all-around game."
Jett led the Mohawks with 11 points on a night of balanced offense. Piggott had 10 players enter the scorer's column in the win. Also scoring for the Mohawks were Coomer 9, Logan Murray 8, Redmon 8, Austin Murray 7, Brewer 5, Haywood 5, Wicker 4, Trevor Grubb 3 and Richard Shaw 1.
The Junior Mohawks were downed in their meeting with Harrisburg, 39-20.
Piggott fought back in the second quarter, closing to four points, 18-14, after trailing 16-8 in the opening frame. Harrisburg pulled ahead 24-16 going into the fourth.
Logan Dixon finished with seven points for the Junior Mohawks. McKinney added five points on the night. Mauldin and Nick Harris rounded out the Piggott scoring with four points each.
The Mohawks picked up a win at home Jan. 24, topping the visiting Tuckerman Bulldogs, 63-43.
Piggott led throughout: 13-10; 27-16 and 47-27.
Brewer and Wicker finished with 14 points each to lead the Mohawks in the victory. Redmon notched 13 for the Tribe. Also scoring for Piggott were Coomer 8, Jett 4, Logan Murray 4, Jacob Richardson 3 and Austin Murray 3.
Cade Niswonger led Tuckerman with 19 points in the loss.
Junior Boys Win
The Junior Mohawks sailed to a 54-26 win over Tuckerman.
Piggott led the entire night: 9-4; 21-14 and 39-23.
Dixon notched a game-high 14 points for the Junior Mohawks. Harris added 10 points in the win. Also scoring for Piggott were Mauldin 9, McKinney 6, Brett Fuller 6, Jett 2, Noah May 2, Jordan Blascoe 2, Tyler Peters 2 and Seth Lacey 1.
The Mohawks are set to host Manila beginning at 6 p.m. Friday night for Homecoming. The Junior Mohawks will begin play in the district tournament Saturday at Harrisburg. The senior boys are set to host CRA beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 for Senior Night. The senior boys will also be in action at Rector beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 9.
