Lady Cougars fall to BIC

It was a difficult road trip for the Lady Cougars Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette. Rector ran into a talented conference-leading BIC team, falling 67-36 on the night.

The Lady Cougars held a slim 13-12 edge after the opening quarter before BIC rallied to take a 32-22 lead at the half. The Lady Mustangs exploded in the third period, outscoring Rector 25-9 to take a commanding 57-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Kendall Gunn led Rector with 15 points on the night, including 11 points in the first stanza. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were Bailey Haney 5, Jessica Scott 3, Cheyenne Ellis 3, Kelsey Wynn 3, Rebekah Scott 2, Vanessa Jones 2, Lenae Haley 2 and Heather Scott 1.

Brittany Fowler led BIC with 15 points in the victory.

Rector fell to 22-7 overall and 9-7 in conference 2A-3 with the loss.

In junior high action, Rector fell to conference co-champion BIC, 46-29.

The hosts led throughout: 16-9; 24-14 and 39-25.

Brittany Fair led Rector with 11 points. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Cougars were Harmony Brown 6, Marla Crancer 6, Tori Hill 4 and Grayson Crancer 2.

The Junior Lady Cougars were slated to face host Riverside Tuesday in junior district tourney action.

The senior girls will wrap up the regular season Thursday night. County rival Piggott is slated to visit for senior night beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday in Rector. The senior boys will also be in action, as the squads' senior members will be recognized during a special ceremony.
