Lemuel L. Smith
Lemuel L. Smith, 90, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Holcomb, Mo., passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, in the Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Piggott, Ark., and was the son of the late Nathan Zelmer and Luda Bell (Brandon) Smith.
He was united in marriage to Marie Gladys Book and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2010, after 62 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Lemuel was a veteran and was a member of the American Legion in Campbell for more than 25 years. He owned Browns Ferry Package and Liquor Store for many years and after retirement he volunteered at the V.A. hospital for 15 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Kay Fisher of Harviell, Mo.; son, Jerry David Fisher and wife Chris of Michigan; sister, Jean Stahl of O'Fallon, Ill.; grandchildren, Ginger Milligan of Ohio, Carrie Fisher of Florida, David Fisher and wife Tammy of Michigan and Tracy Fisher of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Wesley Fisher, Stephanie Milligan, Austin Lange, Nathan Gruse, Griffen Gruse and Cheynne Fisher, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Kevin Eskew officiating. Burial followed in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., was in charge of the arrangements.
