Lady Cougars start strong
Strong pitching, consistent hitting and reliable fielding have been the softball Lady Cougars' best friends to start the 2012 season, with diamonds being the setting. RHS has hit the basepaths running with a 5-0 start in the young campaign.
The Lady Cougars ran roughshod over the visiting Lady Thunderbirds of Cross County Thursday at Rector, imposing their will upon the visitors, 19-3, in a three inning, run-ruled outing.
The Lady Cougars' lineup batted around in the first inning, notching 12 runs in the opening stanza.
Everyone in Rector's lineup hit safely on the afternoon, led by Anna Blackshare and Courtney Shepard, who finished 3-3 with three RBIs each.
Freshman Brittany Fair picked up the win on the mound, striking out four with three unearned runs in two innings of relief work. Kelly Fowler got the start for the Lady Cougars, who moved to 4-0 in conference 2A-3 with the win.
RHS did their damage early, holding on for a 6-4 win over the Lady Rebels of Riverside Tuesday, March 13 in Rector.
The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 after a powerful first inning. Kaitlyn Essman made it 6-0 with a two-run single in the second frame.
Kendal Gunn led RHS at the plate, finishing 2-3 with an RBI.
Riverside plated four runs in the sixth inning, but the surge was not enough to overcome Rector.
Fowler had a good afternoon on the mound, earning her fourth win of the season. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts in seven innings.
