The Lady Mohawks put forth a valiant effort on the road Thursday, but fell short in doubleheader action with the Lady Lions of Manila, 11-10 and 10-6.

The opening contest slipped away in heartbreaking fashion. Piggott led 10-9 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Manila came through late to take the lead after loading the bases in the home half of the frame.

The contest saw the Lady Mohawks take advantage of opportunities through a number of walks drawn, but also witnessed several Piggott hits. Allison Gurley, Kacey Crossfield, Breanna Wright, Mallory Wright and Melinda Blackmon notched two hits each for Piggott. Breanna Chandler and Taylor Davis added a hit each.

Crossfield took the tough loss on the mound for the Lady Mohawks.

Following the emotional loss, the Lady Mohawks scattered six runs throughout three innings in the nightcap, but couldn't overcome timely Manila hitting, falling 10-6.

Gurley and Crossfield had a hit and RBI each to pace Piggott in the end run of the twinbill.

Crossfield also worked the mound for the Lady Mohawks in the second game.

The Lady Mohawks are set to host Tuckerman for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.
