Rector and Marked Tree met in the semifinals of the 2A-3 District Tournament this past Friday in Marked Tree. The Lady Indians jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and that was all Peyton Carter would need as the Lady Indians handed the Lady Cougars a 3-1 defeat.

Poohnu Perry and Janelle Adams opened the game with back to back singles. Peyton Carted worked a walk to load the bases for Marked Tree (26-5). Poohnu Perry came in to score on a passed ball to make it 1-0. Shelby Knight walked to load the bases again. Adams and Carter scored on a wild pitch and passed ball respectively to make the score 3-0.

Rector tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Amanda Bradford reached base on an error to open the inning. Kendall Gunn reached on fielder's choice that forced Bradford out at second. Gunn advanced to third via two wild pitches and scored on a single by Brittany Fair to set the final score.

Kelly Fowler took the loss for Rector (16-5), going all seven innings. She allowed three runs on four hits as she walked three and struck out nine.

Gunn led Rector with a hit and run scored. Fair added a hit and a RBI.

The Lady Cougars enter the 2A-North Regional Tournament as the 2A-3 third seed. Rector is slated to face 2A-2 second seed Salem at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cedar Ridge High School in Newark. A win there would advance the Lady Cougars to the semifinals against either 2A champ Marked Tree or 2A-2 fourth seed Cotter at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, as well as qualify the team for a trip to the 2A State Tournament. The final is slated for 2:30 p.m. Monday. The third and fourth seeds will be determined during a 12 p.m. Monday meeting.
