McClung, Howell win county races

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Incumbent sheriff Gerald McClung and incumbent judge Gary Howell were re-elected in primary balloting Tuesday in Clay County.

Results were not final until the early morning hours because of a technical problem with voting machines in the Clark/North Kilgore precinct in the Western District.

When the final unofficial results were in, McClung emerged as a 1,434 to 1,248 winner over challenger Ronnie Cole.

Judge Howell was re-elected by a larger margin, 1,779 to 857, over challenger Robert Hall.

In the only other local race on Tuesday's ballot, Fred Bucy defeated incumbent Farron Young, 144 to 104, in the West Oak Bluff constable race.
