Piggott Fourth of July schedule set
The schedule is complete for the 85th Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration, with activities set for both Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4, at the picnic grounds in Piggott.
Keeping with recent tradition, the first of the pageants will be held the evening of Tuesday, July 3, and the midway will be open with an armband promotion.
The armbands will be available for unlimited rides on the Star Amusement attractions from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, at a cost of $15 each. That afternoon at 5:30 the first of the pageants will be held, as girls ages eight to 10 compete for the title of Young Junior Miss Piggott. That will be followed at 6:30 p.m. by the Young Miss Piggott pageant for young ladies ages 11 to 14. The final event of that evening will be held at 8 p.m. as the Mrs. Piggott Pageant is held for 2012.
Line-up for the annual parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on West Main Street. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. with Grand Marshal Ed Thompson leading the way. This year the theme of the parade is "Freedom is Not Free."
The opening ceremonies at the park are set for 10 a.m. with a welcome from Mayor Gerald Morris, the invocation, presentation of colors and the playing of our National Anthem by the Marching Mohawk Band of PHS.
Beginning around 10:30 a.m. a variety of local, state and national political speakers will make comments, introduced by C. W. Knauts.
At 11 a.m. Master of Ceremonies Shawn Hearn will take over, and will introduce the first of the day's entertainment as Patrick Patterson and The Band are scheduled to perform. At 3:30 little girls ages five to seven will compete for the title of Little Miss Firecracker. All of the early pageants are being staged by the Pollard Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and all feature either casual or patriotic attire--no pageant attire will be allowed for any of the youth pageants.
At 4 p.m. those in attendance will be treated to a dance routine featuring Alise Gossett and Jaycee Wellman. That will be followed at 4:30 by a performance by Kristen Scott. At 5:30 p.m. Patrick Patterson and The Band will perform, and they'll be followed at 6 p.m. by the classic rock band PF Flyers, who are scheduled to perform until 7:50. They'll be followed by local singer Crystal Hearn, who will entertain the crowd until pageant time.
At 8 p.m. the annual Miss Piggott Pageant will be held as young ladies ages 15-20 compete for the coveted crown, and a scholarship from Piggott State Bank.
