This new scoreboard was installed at the Rector gymnasium this past weekend. The scoreboard, located directly above midcourt, features four-directional displays allowing fans to keep up-to-date no matter where they are seated. The scoreboard features a detailed Cougar on the bottom. The basketball program received funds for the purchase through the efforts of hometown sponsors including Glen Sain GMC and the RHS Sports Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Cougars notched a key conference victory on the road Friday night, topping host McCrory, 63-50.

Rector led throughout: 17-11; 28-17 and 46-33.

Four Cougars scored in double figures as part of a balanced attack. Dillon Shelton led the boys in blue with 19 points in the win. Mitchell Weber finished with 13 on the night. Alec Scott, 11 points, and Daniel White, 10, were also key contributors on the evening. Also scoring for Rector were Landen Crancer 3, Nick Hardin 3, Tyler Carter 2 and Mason McCluskey 2.

The win moves the Cougars to 16-9 overall and 6-6 in conference 2A-3 action.

Junior High

The Junior Cougars improved to 10-7 overall with a 55-36 win over McCrory.

Rector got out to a strong start, jumping to a 16-3 first quarter advantage. McCrory closed to single digits at intermission, trailing 24-19. Rector built a 13 point lead going into the final frame, 43-30.

Lawson Ford paced the Junior Cougars with 19 points on the night. Garrett Buck finished with 10 points in the victory. Also scoring for Rector were Danny Hager 8, Kade Scott 8, Easton Tracy 6, Chito Martinez 2 and Case Watson 2.

Riverside Loss

The Cougars fell short against conference rival Riverside in makeup action Thursday night at Lake City, 87-80. Rector fell behind in the first half, but fought back with a fourth quarter charge to close within single digits. The fast-paced Riverside offense held off the late surge, with Rector outscoring their hosts 29-21 in the final period.

"You can't fall behind like that against a team like Riverside and expect to win," Rector coach Matt Mills said. "I thought we played pretty well overall, though. A lot of those shots that didn't fall in the first half started to fall for us late. It's tough to go there and win on a night like that."

Shelton had a big game from beyond the arc, nailing eight three-pointers en rout to finishing with 24 points on the night. White, 17 points, Mitchell Weber, 15, and Reed Weber, 13, also made their impact felt on offense. Sophomore Landen Crancer added a three-pointer on the night.

Logan Meurer led Riverside with 31 points. Alteeno Sain added 20 for the hosts.

Junior High

The Junior Cougars defeated Riverside 39-32.

Rector led throughout: 16-3; 23-13 and 30-23.

Ford and Buck led the Junior Cougars on the evening, finishing with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Also scoring for Rector were Scott 5, Martinez 2 and Hager 1.

The Cougars are slated to host EPC beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Rector is set to visit Marmaduke for an evening featuring all four teams beginning at 4 p.m. Jan. 29. The Cougars will host BIC for homecoming beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the final game of the regular season.
