Mohawks Advance to Second Round of Tourney
The Piggott Mohawks wrapped up the regular season last week with a two point loss to CRA, and a 10 point loss to the Rector Cougars on senior night (see related story). Monday night the Tribe traveled to Hoxie and beat the Harrisburg Hornets to advance to the second round of the 3A-3 district tournament.
The Tribe visited Crowley's Ridge Academy Tuesday, Feb. 5 and dropped a two point non-conference loss to the Falcons. CRA rode a 31 point game by James Scott to the win, while the Mohawks were paced by Lucas Brewer with 26, Austin Murray with 16 and Trevor Grubb with 8 points.
Monday night the Mohawks traveled to Hoxie and took on the Harrisburg Hornets in their first round district tournament game and posted a 14 point win, 67-53. Coming off the CRA and Rector losses the Tribe looked to take care of business early, and jumped out to a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Mohawks went on to outscore the Hornets 24-9 in the second period as they enjoyed a 38-16 lead at intermission. The Harrisburg squad did battle back some in the second half, but the Mohawks held on down the stretch for the win.
Leading the way for the Tribe was Lucas Brewer with 14, while Logan Murray finished with 13 and Will Jett contributed 12 in the win.
